"My lips will glorify You because Your faithful love is better than life. So I will praise You as long as I live; at Your name, I will lift up my hands."
Psalms. 63:3-4
Musicians, artists, actors, and athletes often know from early on exactly what they want to be when they "grow up." They work to hone their individual skills with purpose and drive. However, for aspiring artist Cassie Curtis, the passion she has for music and sharing her story has grown in congruence with her growing heart for Christ.
Cassie grew up as a pastor's daughter and member of a loving, Christian family. "I'm thankful for the environment I was blessed to grow up in," she states. "I was able to witness genuine passion for God in the lives of my parents and older sister." At age 8, Cassie made that passion personal and accepted Christ as her Savior. Since then, her life has been centered on becoming a woman of God.
Though blessed with a great home-life, Cassie still struggled during her high school and early college years with many issues faced by young people today. "I struggled long and hard with the spiritual apathy that leads to complacency in our lives," she shares. "And, I wrestled with discovering God's will for my life." As many of her lyrics portray, Cassie has earnestly sought God's will for her life and continues seeking to glorify Him in her daily activities.
Cassie has a variety of interests that allow her to influence and relate to many different groups of individuals. At a very young age, she began her athletic journeys in both basketball and tennis. Cassie played both sports throughout high school and went on to participate in NCAA college tennis at North Greenville University, a Division II school. In addition to athletic competition, Cassie thoroughly enjoys socialization and hanging out with friends. "I'm totally a 21st century girl; I love Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and texting my friends," Cassie shares. Her other interests include the language arts and creative writing. She has been writing poems and songs since she could rhyme, and her passion for songwriting really surfaced during her freshman year at North Greenville. Her struggles of finding her place in the collegiate world and in ministry inspired songs like "I Exist" and "Can You?" Cassie continues to explore her love of the written word as she works on getting her bachelor's degree in English Education.
Cassie's greatest interest is, of course, music. "I've always loved the feeling of accomplishment upon mastering a difficult song on the piano or reaching a new high note in full voice," Cassie mentions. She learned piano at an early age and still enjoys the benefits of classical training. She began singing at age 8 in both the church and community. Cassie had the opportunity to participate in many church, school, and community theater musicals in addition to fine arts showcases and special music performances.
In high school, Cassie had the opportunity to lead her youth group in worship. This experience taught her about leadership and logistics, and it ultimately paved the way for her to become a leader of the Athletic Ministries band at North Greenville. She has also spent two summers as the worship leader at Camp Crestridge for Girls in Asheville, North Carolina. These positions have cultivated a deep passion for worship ministry in Cassie's heart. "It is an amazing thing to come into God's presence with an attitude of surrender and words of praise through inspired melodies. It is a privilege and a blessing to lead others to that place," she states.
For Cassie, nothing compares to sharing the songs God has given her and the story He is writing for her. She has a special place in her heart for young people: "I want young people to hear my story and to understand that they can live for God now! Yes, they'll struggle, but God wants to refine them and use them to accomplish His kingdom purposes." God has blessed Cassie with the opportunity to do just that at student conferences, youth groups, camps, and concerts all across America. "I just want to be used of God," she shares. "I hope to continue to be blessed with opportunities to share the love of Jesus and the joy of passionate Christian living through my music."
